I hate for many years, lotli in my own family and in p actice, employed a solution of the chloride or muriate of calcium in certain cases, in which I have come to regard it as possessing quite the character of a specific. Previous to the year 1825, when iodine and its salts were introduced by Coindet, Lugol, and others as the remedy for strumous diseases, the profession trusted almost exclusively under similar conditions to the chloride of calcium, commonly known as the muriate of lime, and which must not be confounded with ihe chloride, more properly the hypochlorite of lime, or the bleaching powder of commerce.
